December 12th. An important Day in TamilNadu, India

Dear all,

I am sure most of the people in Tamilnadu know about the day December 12th. Yes, It's Superstar Rajnikanth's Birthday. First of all, Happy Birthday to Rajnikanth. This year's birthday for Rajnikanth should be a happy one especially after the blockbuster hit Chandramukhi and the start of the production of 'Sivaji'(Rajni's original name) and becoming Asia's 2nd most paid actor after Jackie Chan.

Rajnikanth has been in the news for quiet some time this year, especially in many business newspapers. He normally takes the distribution of his movies. Sources said that the movie 'Chandramukhi' collected almost 'Thirty crore Rupees' in the first week across the world. It is the highest first week collection in India. One famous newspaper also indicating that Rajnikanth received 50%(15 Crore Rupees) of the first week collection as the salary for the movie, which means that Rajnikanth is the highest paid actor beating the Bollywood actors Amitabh and Shahrukh khan who are paid around 7 to 8 Crores.

Last week, during the Film Festival in Goa, India, a French director who was impressed with a martial art scene in a Rajnikanth's film 'Muthu' which was a blockbuster movie way back in 1995 and has planned to use the scene in his forthcoming movie in 2006. Great going Mr. Rajnikanth.

On this occasion of his birthday, celebrations are going all around TamilNadu. In chennai, a large greeting card was placed in the most frequently visited places and people are allowed to pass their greeting through the card. This activity was done for the past 10 days covering most of the places around chennai. The card would have reached him by the time you read this news.

To add more, the future managers and entrepreneurs of Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore (one of the prominent business school in India) have celebrated Rajnikanth's birthday yesterday midnight. The group call themselves 'Sambar Mafia'. One of the member of group(Mr. Vengat) said that they had spent a week's time for preparation. They had bought a 7 foot poster from a theatre. They wore a khakhi pant, black t shirt and an unbuttoned white shirt which is the most famous costume of the Superstar. They had arranged for special dishes. They also screened one of the blockbusters of 'Thalaiva'(means 'Head/Leader', that's how the star has been called by many). The movie 'Padaiyappa' with its rocking dialogues and style shocked and impressed many North Indians and Foreigners with people throwing bits of newspapers to show their joy. They also screened few of his most famous dialogues. Exactly at 12, they bursted crackers and cut cakes. It's really good that the students learn to organise and manage such mega events along with their tight academic schedule.

There were also rumours that he will enter TamilNadu politics soon couple of years back. But whether he will come or not is a different story, let him also continue to what he is good at now.

On this occasion as Rajnikanth's turn 56 today, let us all bless for his long life and come up with more and more good movies.

Happy Birthday

Infrastructure Development in Bangalore

Imagine a human being without bones, blood stream and muscles. It gives a picture of a structure which is basically shapeless. Imagine a human being with bones and muscles, but all of them are misplaced in the body. For example, Femur bone (Leg) on the head. It gives an indefinite and unorganized shape. Same is the case of a City without proper roads, bridges, flyovers, rail gauges and drainage. Basically, these are the structures that form the backbone of the City which we call as Infrastructure.

In an Information Technology (IT) hub like Bangalore, Infrastructure Development is very important. The city has grown exponentially in population since 5 years or so. Hence it requires a well managed Infrastructure to help the logistics of the people. In the current scenario, as everyone knows, Bangalore is getting known for its Traffic equally as its IT.

The major problems that the Infrastructure of Bangalore faces are Poor Traffic Management and Improper Drainage System. The respected authorities should have started working on more flyovers, roads in an organized manner just as the time IT started growing. But we are seeing the initiatives such as Metro rails, Flyovers after facing the Chaos now.

Most of us today are unhappy with the poor traffic in Bangalore. The factors influencing poor traffic management are insufficient structures such as roads and flyovers. Those which are under construction for a long time also create a traffic problem. Traffic Signals in every short distance are also a concern. To add to the chaos, roads flooded due to rain increases the crisis. All of us would have faced any one of these problems in Bangalore so often.

To solve these problems on a short term basis, roads can be made one ways. Dividers can be placed in all the roads where the movement of vehicles is high so that violation of traffic rules would be prevented. Basically these have to be done by proper planning using a proper survey. Gullies can be made at places where the level of roads is low. This would help to manage traffic to a certain extent.

On a long term basis, it would require more flyovers connecting the roads where the frequency of vehicles is high. It can also include Metro and Suburban trains which would definitely reduce the chaos in the roads. Each and every road or rail track should have a proper drainage system so that it does not affect the traffic during showers. Roads have to be leveled in such a way that it would slope towards a small pit lane placed in the left, right and the middle of the road and therefore the rain water reaches a proper drainage. Metro rails should cover the major areas of the city. It is a good move that the government has started working on Metro rail project. But it is also important that it should be completed in the stipulated timeframe. It should also ensure that by the time it is ready to use, it should also take care of the increase in population from now. Roads also can be widened and making them into lanes such that it is much more organized.

It's just not enough to have all these flyovers and metros but it also depends on the administration of the city. The administrators of the city have to ensure the traffic is properly managed. It should be ready to handle accidents or any crisis such as floods, fire accidents, etc. All roads and flyovers should have displays of speed limits. Traffic rules and regulations have to be strengthened.

In order to make the Silicon Valley as a properly organized city, it requires a big deal of work from the administration to improve the infrastructure at a faster rate. It all depends on how it is handled and how fast it done. It can only be said that the hope is to see a real Silicon Valley of India not only in IT growth but also with large structures facilitating the people to commute quickly and safely.

Team India getting ready for World Cup 2007

Cricket fans,

"There's been something happening around in Team India since the new Guru joined. " This is what the view of most of the cricket critics and the so called experts. It was not only the new Guru but also some other factors which helped India to clinch the series 6-1 against Sri Lanka. Easily, It is the best series win for India since many years. Winning a series 6-1 is not that easy.

The first and foremost factor for the success is the keyword 'PERFORMANCE'. Yes, ever since the team management announced that 'Performance is the criteria for selection', there's been a change in the names of the list of eleven players quite often. It has been an eye opener for some of the senior players who were in the team with some ordinary performances for some time to seriously think of playing good cricket. It has also provided youngster like RP Singh, Sreesanth, Venugopala Rao, Suresh Raina to get into the national side as they were proving themselves in the domestic arena with what is required, 'Performance'. These guys have been a revelation with a high team spirit in the field even if they are in as a Super Sub. Was there any time earlier in Indian cricket where in lot of fast bowlers awaiting for their chance at the same time? This is the first time it has happened. Hats off to Kiran More and Team for this kind of change.

The second factor for the success is 'The Wall'. Yes, the new captain, Rahul Dravid is showing good signs as a captain. But Yes, It's too early to compare with India's most successful captain Ganguly, in success rate as the matches capped are less for him. Truly speaking there has been some change in the team line up every now and then, depending upon the pitch, match situation and other factors. Not to forget the involvement of Sachin Tendulkar in changing the team line up who came back fighting out his injury after six months. It was Sachin's idea to play Pathan at number 3 spot as a pinch hitter. But Pathan proved that he is not just a pinch hitter but also a very good batsman. Dhoni also proving the same. Suddenly the line up looks very strong. Hats off to Dravid for shuffling the batting order making players to realise their responsibilities.

It would be unfair to leave out Greg. Yes, the Guru has been in the news for some time. First some bad experience followed by very good experience. It's his attitude that made him to point out the some of the senior players' bad run with the bat or ball and making them to play good cricket for their selection. It's really a good sign for Indian Cricket. Probably, the mantra followed by him is 'Don't react for Emotions. Act for Performance'. This is what made him to come out with a historic series win 6-1 after all the bad experience he had in Zimbabwe tour.

World Cup 2007 may the last one for some of the senior players like Dravid, Sachin, etc. So, they would be very keen to have their names in the winners' list.

Now that they(The Management, The Guru, The Wall) have benchmarked with a good result, they should review the team's performance once in 2 or 3 series and review the results to improve. That's very important. If they continue the process, there would definitely be 2 equally strong teams for India by next world cup which will provide the team management to have some very good reserve players.

Let us all hope for Team India does PERFORM well in the upcoming seasons.
