Team India getting ready for World Cup 2007

Cricket fans,

"There's been something happening around in Team India since the new Guru joined. " This is what the view of most of the cricket critics and the so called experts. It was not only the new Guru but also some other factors which helped India to clinch the series 6-1 against Sri Lanka. Easily, It is the best series win for India since many years. Winning a series 6-1 is not that easy.

The first and foremost factor for the success is the keyword 'PERFORMANCE'. Yes, ever since the team management announced that 'Performance is the criteria for selection', there's been a change in the names of the list of eleven players quite often. It has been an eye opener for some of the senior players who were in the team with some ordinary performances for some time to seriously think of playing good cricket. It has also provided youngster like RP Singh, Sreesanth, Venugopala Rao, Suresh Raina to get into the national side as they were proving themselves in the domestic arena with what is required, 'Performance'. These guys have been a revelation with a high team spirit in the field even if they are in as a Super Sub. Was there any time earlier in Indian cricket where in lot of fast bowlers awaiting for their chance at the same time? This is the first time it has happened. Hats off to Kiran More and Team for this kind of change.

The second factor for the success is 'The Wall'. Yes, the new captain, Rahul Dravid is showing good signs as a captain. But Yes, It's too early to compare with India's most successful captain Ganguly, in success rate as the matches capped are less for him. Truly speaking there has been some change in the team line up every now and then, depending upon the pitch, match situation and other factors. Not to forget the involvement of Sachin Tendulkar in changing the team line up who came back fighting out his injury after six months. It was Sachin's idea to play Pathan at number 3 spot as a pinch hitter. But Pathan proved that he is not just a pinch hitter but also a very good batsman. Dhoni also proving the same. Suddenly the line up looks very strong. Hats off to Dravid for shuffling the batting order making players to realise their responsibilities.

It would be unfair to leave out Greg. Yes, the Guru has been in the news for some time. First some bad experience followed by very good experience. It's his attitude that made him to point out the some of the senior players' bad run with the bat or ball and making them to play good cricket for their selection. It's really a good sign for Indian Cricket. Probably, the mantra followed by him is 'Don't react for Emotions. Act for Performance'. This is what made him to come out with a historic series win 6-1 after all the bad experience he had in Zimbabwe tour.

World Cup 2007 may the last one for some of the senior players like Dravid, Sachin, etc. So, they would be very keen to have their names in the winners' list.

Now that they(The Management, The Guru, The Wall) have benchmarked with a good result, they should review the team's performance once in 2 or 3 series and review the results to improve. That's very important. If they continue the process, there would definitely be 2 equally strong teams for India by next world cup which will provide the team management to have some very good reserve players.

Let us all hope for Team India does PERFORM well in the upcoming seasons.

Hi Praveen,
Welcome to the blogging world! You write well. Good cricket stuff, I have been out of touch with cricket for long time. But read about Dhoni's performance, Happy that India finally has a great wicket keeper batsman.
